Jennie Fletcher

The geography and history of the British Isles is fundamental

to my work. The mystery of the history 'beneath', or what can

be seen, or imagined, 'beyond' is what inspires me to paint.

How the land has been shaped both geologically and by

climate, and the way humankind has made use of its many resources feeds my curiosity with endless ideas.

Mixing oil paint with cold wax medium provides the perfect

medium for building up many layers which are left to 'set up'.

Then the excitement of digging, or 'excavating' into the paint begins. Not knowing what I will find really does inspire a

more abstract approach to my work.

My handmade necklaces are loosely reminiscent of adornments found in tombs and chambers. they reflect the processes

I use in my paintings, so I like to think them as 'wearable art'

rather than jewellery!
