I am a mixed media artist and former university lecturer in Fine Art. I hold a master's degree in contemporary Fine Art and a Batchelor of Arts in Sculpture and Ceramics. I work in a variety of mixed media, informed by my various careers including antique and fine arts dealer and collector. My work includes paint, ink and wax, jewellery, collage and found objects that manifest into allegorical tales.

The focus of my work is to weave a visual narrative throughout a painted image open entirely to the viewers interpretation.

This style materialised over time as I explored different media and was never satisfied with just the painted image. I began to introduce variety; for example collage, wax, and bits of jewellery, ephemera: like postcards, text and letters that I had collected-'keepsakes'. Later and more deliberately, the placement of these objects took on hidden meanings - metaphors for people and places- interwoven within the layers of paint.

Unique people who have touched our lives often leave behind indelible marks on our hearts and in our memory. Introducing those treasured objects in art is, therefore, not only an eternal reminder of them, but something tangible that we can see and touch.

You will find that pearls are prevalent throughout many of my pieces. These are my shimmering homage to my late mum 'Bet Whelan'- a woman of great substance, inspiration and storytelling, who wore them often, loved unconditionally always, and who never let go of my hand'.
